Set in a department with a long tradition of innovation and academic excellence, Stanford’s Adult Psychiatry Residency Program strives to provide residents with an outstanding and balanced educational experience. We offer broad clinical exposure in a diverse array of clinical settings, ranging from Stanford University Medical Center and the VA Health Care System to county hospitals and an HMO. The program emphasizes biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of psychiatry and provides training in both somatic and psychotherapeutic treatment modalities.
As every residency program has its own “personality,” ours could be described as flexible and friendly. We seek future leaders in psychiatry who wish to pursue a wide range of psychiatric careers, including research, teaching, administration, or public-sector work. We help residents develop their strengths and work with them in every step of their training to help foster their future careers. Residents develop and pursue their personal and academic objectives with the support and guidance of world-class academic and clinical faculty.
We offer a four-year ACGME-accredited program, filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). We also have a research track adapted to the scientific interests of the resident. The Psychiatry Department boasts one of the largest research programs within Stanford Medical Center. With over 350 research and clinical faculty encompassing a broad range of interests and orientations, Stanford offers excellent opportunities for all residents to participate in a rich array of research and clinical experiences. After the completion of residency, there are multiple opportunities for advanced training.
Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
